Special framing and mounting materials should be used to preserve both the autograph and image. Amateur framers may use glue, spray adhesive or tape which could stain the paper or make it impossible to make changes to your framing in the future. Amateur framers also may use a matting paper containing a high acid content, leading to further deterioration.

Also consider the proper frame for your collectible item. Frames that require you to slide the photo in could risk scratching or ripping your autographed memorabilia. Quality frames allow the framer full access to both the glass and backing, making it much safer to place your photo in the frame.
